Early Career Program

The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Army Research Laboratory (ARL) is actively soliciting research proposals for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority-Serving Institutions (HBCU/MI) Early Career Program (ECP).
HBCU/MI faculty are encouraged to submit proposals. This program is designed to provide outstanding scientists and engineers the opportunity to enhance their skillset. Each Army funded award aims to support basic research that contributes to fulfilling Army modernization needs, with a specific focus on early career researchers.

Army HBCU/MI SPARK

Summer Internship

The Army Historically Black Colleges and Universities/Minority-serving Institutions (HBCU-MI) Student Program for Army Research and Knowledge (SPARK) allows U.S. graduate and undergraduate students in STEM fields to conduct research at an Army facility. During the summer of 2025, students will engage in Army mission-related research projects, including data analysis and systems modeling, under the guidance of government scientists and engineers. Benefits for students include a weekly stipend of $1000, paid travel and housing, and valuable work experience in state-of-the-art research facilities with Army scientists and engineers.

Faculty Immersion Program

Applications Are Now Being Accepted

The Army HBCU-MI Faculty Immersion Program is a two-year initiative that aims to enhance research capabilities and foster collaboration with the Department of Defense (DoD) by involving junior faculty currently performing research in Modernization Priority Areas from covered educational institutions in a structured, three-phase initiative. The program seeks to direct resources to underrepresented institutions, focusing on areas such as Environmental Science, Synthetic Biology, and Autonomy.
